T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center celebrates Juneteenth with Black Press Exhibit and Author Talk
This year, the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center in Red Bank, New Jersey, will celebrate the holiday with a focus on the Black Press, which played a pivotal role in shaping narratives and driving social change.

Juneteenth, a day honoring freedom and resilience, will be celebrated in Red Bank, New Jersey, with a special event at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center, highlighting the impact of the Black Press on social change.

Black Press Exhibit and Author Talk
On June 19, author Frankie Hutton (The Early Black Press 1827-1860 and Beyond) will kick off the weekend with a talk on the trailblazers of Black journalism and their fight to speak truth to power. The Center, a National Historic Landmark and site on the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail, houses The Black Press: Stewards of Democracy, an exhibit honoring T. Thomas Fortune and other pioneers.
Champagne and Soul Food Brunch
Juneteenth celebrations continue on June 22 with a Champagne and Soul Food Brunch benefiting Cedar View Cemetery in Lincroft, where Black Civil War veterans are buried. A community gathering at Johnny Jazz Park will feature vendors, speakers, and children’s activities.
