Death of Tanisha Anderson, woman with mental illness who died in police custody, ruled a homicide
A coroner has ruled the death of Tanisha Anderson, who was in the custody of police, a homicide.
According to the Associated Press, a coroner says that the death Tanisha Anderson, who died in Cleveland police custody, has been ruled a homicide.
Tanisha Anderson’s death came after she was physically restrained in a prone position and that her heart condition and bipolar disorder also were factors.
Anderson died Nov. 12 after losing consciousness in the custody of officers while having a mental-health episode.
Relatives say the 37-year-old was schizophrenic and claim an officer used excessive force while restraining her.
In a news conference, Anderson’s family said they were seeking more answers into their loved one’s death and felt the Cleveland police needed more training in handling mentally-ill people.
Cleveland police say they are looking into the death of Tanisha Anderson. The two officers involved are on restricted duty.
