TUROK SON OF STONE PROJECT

Back in the day before the middle school became the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, my students of the past helped me design this Turok Son of Stone poster.

Turok Son of Stone

At the time my students were learning about Native Americans such as the Aleuts, Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, Huron, Aztecs etc.

One of the projects I assigned dealt with reading a work of Native American fiction. I had them read a comic book on Turok Son of Stone. The students were very interested and as a result wanted to create a poster of this character battling his monstrous opponents. The poster was a combination of three different comic books with the three different threatening opponents. My students managed to combine all images through the use of photoshop.

The use of technology, fiction, and history, made the students very interested in this project.

Because of this project, not only did the students want to keep learning about Native Americans but also prehistoric creatures.

This project encouraged students to read science journals and life on Earth before man. Combining multiple things into one category caused an explosion of learning. For instance, take the project I had my students do, they wanted to learn more about history, then science, and even math.
