Mr. Wronko’s students, Chase Lucas, Graciela Perez Bautista, Lisette Riano Ruiz, Melanie Rice, Jaiden Tyler, and Isaura Vasquez- Rojas participated in the Black History Committee’s Black History Month Program at the Monmouth Courthouse in Freehold.
Black History Committee Presentations
Students conducted presentations, written and researched by them, in which they were famous African Americans in history.
Important figures in history
Figures of history who they played were, Crispus Attucks, Ruby Bridges, Claudette Colvin, and Rosa Parks.
Black History Committee Student Presentations
Chase Lucas and Melanie Rice sang a rap song entitled 1619 which showed how African Americans fought and defeated slavery, gained their rights, and achieved the ultimate goal of having the first black president Barack Obama.
To help my students prepare for their presentations were Tara L. Williams and Carmen Flores. Both were in charge of the Black History Committee. In addition to Tara L. Williams and Carmen Flores, the students did a trial run in front of the students in Ghana.
Ghana presentations
The students in Ghana also provided input to help my students improve their presentations.
Besides my students practicing for their presentations, the students in Ghana gave Tara L. Williams and Carmen Flores a presentation about Ghana’s history, culture, and way of life.
Before the pandemic of 2020 broke out, I conducted the last three Ghana sessions held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.
One of the sessions dealt with Ghana’s Independence Day.
The students in Ghana gave a presentation to my afternoon group of students about how Ghana’s Independence day was about Ghana declaring independence from British colonial rule.
This was declared by Kwame Nkrumah, Prime Minister of Ghana, on March 6, 1957.
Another Ghana session dealt with the celebration of Black History Month.
The students in Ghana created a presentation based on famous blacks who were inventors, politicians, artists, progressives, actors, and musicians.
The final Ghana session that took place was based on what actor played the best Batman.
Students in Ghana gave their opinion regarding Christian Bale, Vale Kilmer, Michael Keaton, and George Clooney on their portrayal of the Dark Knight.
Some students in Ghana liked Christian Bale while others liked Keaton and Kilmer.
