Jacob Blake's Father Says Son Is Paralyzed From Police Shooting
Jacob Blake

The father of Jacob Blake, the man who was shot by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, says his son was left paralyzed from the waist down.

The shooting of Jacob Blake caused him to be paralyzed

Blake’s father told the Chicago Sun-Times that he was told his son was shot eight times during the Sunday evening confrontation with police.

The father, who is also named Jacob Blake and who was driving from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Kenosha to be with his son, told the newspaper that he learned Sunday night that officers had shot his son eight times and that he saw the now-viral video of it online a few minutes later that appears to show police shoot his son in the back.

He said his son now has “eight holes” in his body and is paralyzed from the waist down, though doctors don’t know if the paralysis will be permanent.

Video of the incident

A graphic video reportedly to be of the shooting and posted on Facebook, shows at least two police officers following the man with guns drawn as he walks from the passenger side of a gray vehicle to the driver’s side.

When the man opens the door of the vehicle and tries to get in, one of the officers is seen grabbing him by the T-shirt. The officer points his gun at the man as he holds on to the man’s T-shirt.

At least seven gunshots are heard, and the man appears to go limp in the vehicle, the car horn blaring.

Police said they were called to the address to deal with a domestic disturbance, but it is unclear who called or what happened before the video recording began.

They have not said how many officers were involved and no names have been given.

Police in Kenosha do not have body cameras, although they do have microphones.
