Ghana And Asbury Park High School Present: National Hispanic Heritage Month

Just recently Mr. Wronko and his students joined Ghana and Papa Williams with his students to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Presentations on National Hispanic Heritage Month

Both sides wrote reports regarding what National Hispanic Heritage Month was about as well as people with a Spanish background who made a positive impact on American culture.

Students in Ghana, along with Mr. Wronko’s students, presented the idea that National Hispanic Heritage Month was a time of celebrating the achievements, culture, and history of many Hispanic Americans.

All students on both ends wrote about individuals such as Frida Kahlo, Rafael Nadal, Pablo Picasso, Jennifer Lopez, Merced Solis, Ritchie Valens, Bob Menendez and more.

In addition, Mr. Wronko’s lead student Prince Mychire Gue answered questions and had a discussion with the students in Ghana regarding how he celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month. He explained that he would before the pandemic hit go out and eat at a Mexican Family Restaurant. Prince also explained that his favorite Spanish food was tacos.

A Better America Project

Because there was additional time in this session, Prince wanted to share Mr. Wronko’s A Better America Project with the students in Ghana.

This project tied together the Amistad and 1619 studies and went into how famous African Americans shaped American culture for the better.

Prince read to all students on both sides his report about Kobe Bryant. He explained that Kobe Bryant was an outstanding basketball player and a great role model for young athletes to be at their best regardless of their race and background. He noted that Kobe was an inspiration to all Americans and would be missed.

Below were amazing images from the session. I thank Papa and the students in Ghana for connecting with my students during this time of remote learning.
