Prosecutor Chris Becker announced charges Thursday against Grand Rapids Officer Christopher Schurr, weeks after the 26-year-old Congolese refugee was killed following a traffic stop on April 4.
Lyoya, who was unarmed, was on the ground when he was shot and killed. The shooting was recorded on video by a bystander.

Four videos released to the public by police showed Lyoya and the officer physically struggle on the ground before Lyoya was fatally shot.
The officer was on top of him and can be heard on video demanding that he take his hand off a police Taser. Lyoya was stopped for an invalid license plate.
According to Becker, Schurr has already turned himself in and will be arraigned Friday.
Second-degree murder is a felony charge. Schurr faces life in prison with the possibility of parole if convicted.
