Family remembers Chicago man pushed in front of train, calls for answers

CHICAGO — A 15‑year‑old girl faces multiple felony charges after Chicago police said she used force to push Kyle Bickham, 29, from a moving CTA Red Line train during an altercation on Sept. 7. Chicago police said that Bickham fell from the train near the 69th Street station and was struck by another train.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Bickham and ruled his death a homicide, per CBS Chicago. Officials said he died from multiple injuries after landing on the electrified third rail.

Teen Faces Several Felony Counts

Chicago police said detectives arrested the teen on Sept. 11. She is charged with:

• first‑degree murder
• murder during a forcible felony
• mob action
• aggravated battery to a transit passenger

She appeared in juvenile court, where a judge ordered her held in custody.

Investigators said surveillance video and witness statements supported the charges.

Family Says Bickham Was Heading Home From Work

Bickham’s family told CBS Chicago that he was heading home after working an overnight shift at an Amazon warehouse. They said he relied on the train for his commute and had no connection to the people involved in the confrontation.

Loved ones described him as hardworking, caring, and devoted to his family. They said he was focused on building a stable life and had recently moved into a new apartment.

“I wish this pain on no one. No one else. I wish that no one else has to go through this,” said the victim’s father, Christopher Bickham Sr.

Loved Ones Demand Answers and Accountability

Bickham’s family gathered at the 69th Street station on Sunday and called for witnesses and the remaining suspects to come forward. They also questioned the lack of security on the train and urged CTA officials to address safety concerns.

His father said the family wants a clear explanation of how a routine commute turned deadly. His brother asked the other individuals involved to surrender to police.

Investigation Continues

Police said three people took part in the attack, but officers have not made any additional arrests. The teen charged in the case is due back in court in October.

A GoFundMe created by Bickham’s relatives is helping cover funeral expenses. The fundraiser describes him as a loved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
