Second teen charged with murder after Kyle Bickham was pushed from CTA train, police say

CHICAGO — Chicago police have charged a second teen in the killing of 29‑year‑old Kyle Bickham, who died after being pushed from a CTA Red Line train earlier this month.

Bickham was heading home from work on Sept. 7 when an argument with several passengers escalated, according to authorities. During the altercation, police said the group forced open the doors of the last railcar and pushed him from the moving train. He fell onto the tracks, hit the electrified third rail and was struck by another train.

19‑Year‑Old Teen Now Charged

The newly charged suspect, 19‑year‑old teen Katlar Parchman, faces first‑degree murder, murder during a forcible felony, aggravated battery of a transit employee, and mob action, prosecutors said. Surveillance video captured the confrontation and helped identify Parchman who is alleged to have participated in the crime.

15‑Year‑Old Girl Charged First

A 15‑year‑old girl was arrested days after the attack. She faces first‑degree murder, murder during a forcible felony, aggravated battery of a transit passenger, and mob action. Police said she allegedly played a direct role in the confrontation that led to Bickham’s fall. Her name was not released due to her age.

Family Says Bickham Was “Loved by Everyone”

Bickham’s family told CBS Chicago he was commuting home from his job at an Amazon facility when the attack occurred. Relatives described him as hardworking, kind and deeply loved. A GoFundMe launched by his family said Bickham was “a son, brother, uncle, family member, and friend who was loved by so many.”

Investigation Still Active

Chicago police said detectives are still reviewing video and interviewing witnesses. Officials have not ruled out additional charges. They urged anyone with information to contact the department or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
