Tyler Perry joins Georgia Gov.-Elect Keisha Lance Bottoms’ transition team
Georgia Gov.-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms names Tyler Perry co-chair of her Georgia’s Promise transition team alongside prominent business and political leaders ahead of her historic inauguration in January.
ATLANTA — Georgia Gov.-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms has named entertainment mogul Tyler Perry as a co-chair of her gubernatorial transition team.
Bottoms announced the appointment Friday, Nov. 6, during a news conference at the Georgia State Capitol.
The former Atlanta mayor introduced her transition committee, called “Georgia’s Promise,” as she prepares to take office in January.
Perry joins prominent business executives, political leaders and community advocates tasked with helping Bottoms establish her administration.
Bottoms described Perry as an entertainment mogul with a significant philanthropic presence in Georgia.
Perry owns Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, where he has built one of the entertainment industry’s most recognizable production companies in the world.
Tyler Perry and Keisha Lance Bottoms Have Previously Worked Together
Perry and Bottoms already share a professional connection through the entertainment industry.
Bottoms served as an executive producer on Perry’s Netflix political comedy “She the People,” later renamed “Miss Governor.”
The series premiered in May 2025 but ended after its first season.
Now, their professional relationship extends into Georgia politics as Bottoms prepares to lead the state.
Perry’s appointment also brings a prominent figure from Atlanta’s entertainment and philanthropic communities into the transition process.
Georgia’s Promise Transition Team Includes Business and Political Leaders
Perry will serve alongside several prominent Georgia leaders.
Bottoms announced additional committee members which includes Home Depot co-founder Arthur Blank and former Walgreens CEO Rosalind Brewer.
Other co-chairs include Carter Center board chair Jason Carter, Delta Air Lines executive Richard Cox and former state Rep. Jane Kidd.
Additionally, civic leader Michelle Nunn, affordable housing leader Carmen Chubb and former state Rep. Rashad Taylor will serve on the committee.
Former Atlanta Chief Operating Officer John King will oversee the transition operation as its chief operating officer.
King previously worked under Bottoms during her tenure as Atlanta mayor.
The committee will help identify administration officials, establish policy priorities and prepare state agencies for new leadership.
Bottoms Outlines Priorities Ahead of Taking Office
Bottoms said her transition team will focus on preparing her administration to govern immediately after inauguration.
“Our goal is simple: to be ready to govern on day one,” Bottoms said.
Meanwhile, the governor-elect identified affordability, health care and education as major priorities for her administration.
She plans to address rising living costs, expand access to affordable health care and increase investments in public schools.
Bottoms made history Nov. 3 when she defeated Republican Rick Jackson in Georgia’s gubernatorial election.
Her victory made her the first Black woman elected governor in U.S. history.
The governor-elect expects to announce additional transition leaders, policy advisers and senior staff members in the coming weeks.
For now, Perry’s appointment places one of Atlanta’s most prominent entertainment figures among the leaders helping shape Georgia’s next administration.
