Pregnant mother of four killed in Spirit Halloween shooting in Northern California
Constance Hages, a pregnant mother of four, was killed when a gunman opened fire inside a crowded Spirit Halloween store in N. California.
FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A pregnant mother of four was killed when a gunman opened fire inside a crowded Spirit Halloween store in Northern California, leaving six others wounded.
Constance Hages, 31, died in the Oct. 30 shooting at Solano Town Center in Fairfield. Her family also confirmed the loss of her unborn child.
Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy who now faces two murder charges in connection with the shooting.
Investigators believe Hages was an innocent bystander caught in gunfire directed at another customer.
Her death has left four children without their mother and alongside a devastated family.
Gunfire Erupts Inside Spirit Halloween Store
The shooting unfolded around 8:30 p.m. as shoppers visited the Halloween store ahead of the holiday.
According to The Associated Press, officers responded to reports of gunfire and found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Hages died at the scene. Emergency crews transported the six surviving victims to nearby hospitals.
The victims ranged in age from 16 to 43.
Police initially reported that several victims suffered critical injuries. By Nov. 2, four remained hospitalized, including a 19-year-old man in critical condition.
Meanwhile, investigators reviewed surveillance footage and other evidence to identify the gunman.
A school resource officer recognized the suspect from security footage, helping investigators locate him.
Police arrested the teenager Nov. 2 at a residence in Suisun City.
Teen Faces Murder Charges in Deadly Shooting
Prosecutors have charged the 17-year-old with two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and additional firearm-related offenses.
According to KQED, investigators believe the teenager entered the store and fired several rounds at a customer he intended to target.
However, police have not publicly established the circumstances surrounding the suspected dispute.
The teenager previously served time in juvenile detention following a separate shooting involving an occupied vehicle in 2025.
Solano County prosecutors are seeking to have him tried as an adult.
The suspect appeared in juvenile court Nov. 4. His arraignment was postponed until Nov. 13.
Family Launches GoFundMe for Constance Hages’ Four Children
As the criminal case moves forward, Hages’ family faces the painful task of burying her and supporting her children.
Her aunt, Clanisha Morton, established a GoFundMe campaign titled “A Loving Farewell for Constance Hages.”
The fundraiser will help cover funeral expenses and provide financial assistance for the four children Hages leaves behind.
Morton described her niece as a deeply loved woman whose death has devastated those closest to her.
“Constance was deeply loved, and her absence has created an overwhelming void in the lives of everyone who knew and cherished her,” the fundraiser reads.
The family is asking for donations, prayers and community support as they prepare to lay Hages to rest.
Beyond the funeral, relatives hope contributions will help provide stability and educational opportunities for her children.
