SHREVEPORT, La. — Christina Snow, a surviving victim who lost three of her children in Sunday’s mass shooting in Louisiana, is receiving community support through a GoFundMe created by Be The Village to help her family navigate overwhelming grief and recovery. The fundraiser comes as Shreveport mourns eight children killed in what police describe as a domestic violence attack.
Unheard Voices Magazine spoke with GoFundMe and can confirm the fundraiser is verified.
Police Say Suspect Killed Eight Children in Shreveport Louisiana Mass Shooting
Authorities identified the shooter as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, the father of seven of the children. Police said Elkins shot two women, including Snow and eight children across two homes early Sunday. The victims ranged in age from 3 to 11. Snow and the other woman, reportedly a mother of several of the children as well, survived the shooting. They are both recovering.
Investigators said Elkins first shot a woman on Harrison Street. He then drove to another home and killed all eight children there. After the shootings, he fled in a carjacked vehicle. Officers pursued him into Bossier Parish, where he died after firing at police. No officers were injured.
The children killed have been identified as:
- Jayla Elkins, 3
- Shayla Elkins, 5
- Kayla Pugh, 6
- Layla Pugh, 7
- Markaydon Pugh, 10
- Sariahh Snow, 11
- Khedarrion Snow, 6
- Braylon Snow, 5
Fundraiser for Christina Snow Describes ‘Unimaginable Tragedy’
The GoFundMe states that the community is “grieving an unimaginable tragedy” and emphasizes that Snow, 31, “has suffered the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives due to an act of domestic violence.” The organizer, who leads the outreach group Be The Village, said the goal is to ensure Snow receives support during “this devastating time.”
The fundraiser says donations will help pay for funeral and burial expenses, support memorial arrangements, cover immediate family needs, and assist with Snow’s ongoing care and recovery. The Elkins family respectfully declined to be included in the fundraiser.
