Two men have been arrested for the brutal attack against Deandre Harris that took place in Charlottesville, VA at the “Unite The Right” rally.

Men arrested for attack on Deandre Harris

The arrest comes nearly two weeks after the rally, which protestors protested against the removal of a statue of Confederate Robert E. Lee.

The rally was marked by clashes between demonstrators and counter protestors, causing many injuries and the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer when James A. Fields Jr. plowed a car into counter protestors.

Police were highly criticized for not moving fast enough to make arrests. Activist and writer Shaun King started his own initiative by gathering pictures of the assault to identify the men even offering a 10,000 reward for further information.

Incident

Deandre Harris, 20, was cornered in a parking garage where he was brutally assaulted right by Charlottesville police headquarters.

“I arrived at Emancipation Park around 11 AM as a counter-protester to voice my opinion on racial tensions and to literally stand up for what I believe in,” Harris wrote on the page. “I was only there for a few minutes before I was hit with water bottles, maced with pepper spray, and had [derogatory] slurs hurled at me.”

Mr. Harris sustained a broken wrist and a head injury that required 10 staples, his lawyer, S. Lee Merritt, said.

Daniel P. Borden, 18, of Ohio was arrested and charged on Friday with malicious wounding in connection with the aggravated assault on Mr. Harris, the police said. He is currently being held at Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Charlottesville police said.
