Man charged for Neptune City, New Jersey homicide

Zhahiem Spann, of Ocean Township, 28, has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kaylib Paul, 24, of Neptune Township that took place in Neptune City, authorities announced Monday.

Authorities announced Monday that Zhahiem Spann, 28, of Ocean Township, N.J., faces charges in the fatal stabbing of 24‑year‑old Kaylib Paul in Neptune City, N.J.

Spann was charged with

  • First-degree Murder
  • Fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife)
  • Third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose

Details: Neptune City stabbing

On March 4, 2025, at approximately 11:31 p.m., members of the Neptune City Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing outside a residence in the vicinity of the 200 block of West Sylvania Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 24-year-old male, suffering from stab wounds.

Medics rushed the victim, later identified as Kaylib Paul of Neptune Township, to a local hospital for treatment. Paul later died from his injuries, and medical staff pronounced him dead on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Investigation

An investigation by  Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office determined Spann was responsible for the stabbing. Neptune City Police also joined the investigation.

Despite these charges, courts presume every defendant innocent unless prosecutors prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at a trial where the defendant exercises all rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and state law.
