According to his family, Pigford was allergic to wasp and bee stings but had not realized how severe his allergy had become. On the day of the incident, he worked alongside colleagues from his company when wasps stung him, and he couldn’t reach help in time. Assistant Chief Jessica Jones of the Moselle Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) shared, “He’s one of those people you call at 1 a.m. if something’s broken in the house. He’d do anything to help.”
Raising Awareness Through Tragedy
In response to his sudden passing, loved ones launched the GoFundMe. The fundraiser will not only help cover funeral expenses but also to raise awareness about the dangers of severe allergic reactions. The campaign urges others to take proactive steps.
“It is important to inform others, develop an action plan, and keep an epinephrine auto-injector nearby. You never know when you may need it because it might save you or a loved one’s life.”
Anaphylaxis is a rapid and potentially fatal reaction triggered by allergens such as insect stings. Symptoms can include swelling, difficulty breathing, and nausea, and that immediate treatment is critical.
Marvin Pigford: A Legacy of Service and Compassion
Pigford had served with the Moselle VFD for about 18 months, earning the admiration of his peers and neighbors alike. His commitment to public safety and his generous spirit left a lasting mark on the community he helped protect.
Through the GoFundMe campaign, his family hopes to turn grief into action—educating others and ensuring that Marvin Pigford’s legacy continues to inspire preparedness, compassion, and service.
