Keansburg, N.J. — Paco M. Moore, a 28‑year‑old father, was fatally shot on July 20. Police responded to Carr Avenue around 9 p.m. and found Moore suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Family Witnessed the Shooting

According to family, Moore had been out playing Pokémon Go with his fiancée, Julia Emerson, their toddler daughter, and extended relatives when gunfire erupted. Emerson’s 7‑year‑old brother first heard “pop, pop, pop” and thought it was fireworks. Moore’s 16‑month‑old daughter screamed “Daddy, Da‑Da” as he fell to the ground, according to accounts shared with the Asbury Park Press.

Paco Moore Was Expecting a Second Child

Moore leaves behind his fiancée, their toddler daughter, and a second child due in the coming weeks. Emerson is seven months pregnant and now faces the emotional and financial strain of raising two children without Moore, who was the head of their household, according to a GoFundMe campaign created to support the family.

Community Honors a “Shining Light”

Moore worked at Local Smoke BBQ’s Red Bank location. The company said on Facebook, Moore “rose through the ranks” through hard work and kindness and called him “a shining light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

The GoFundMe for Emerson and her children has raised more than $11,000. It will reportedly help cover funeral costs and living expenses as the family prepares for the arrival of Moore’s second child.

Authorities have not announced any arrests, and the investigation remains active.

They urge anyone with information to contact:

  • Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Detective Joseph Mason OR
  • Keansburg Detective Michael Sheehan as they continue searching for answers.
