Roxanne Shante to be honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award
The pioneering lyricist will be honored during the Special Merit Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 1, 2025, one day before the Grammy Awards.
Rapper Roxanne Shante will be the first female solo rapper to receive the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement award.

The pioneering lyricist will be honored during the Special Merit Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 1, 2025, one day before the Grammy Awards.
The award recognizes “performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”
Other recipients this year are Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Prince and Frankie Valli.
Hip Hop pioneers
Hip-hop trailblazers who have previously received the honor are Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Salt-N-Pepa and N.W.A.
“When you get in the music industry, you want three things: to get paid, to get on Billboard and to win a Grammy,” Shanté said during her interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings. Now done she’s all three.
