UV’s Top Jobs on The Internet
Two years ago I posted an article on my top five jobs on the internet.
Due to the bad economy, many are turning to technology for work. Technology is the wave of the future. As long as we have technology and computers, there will always be jobs. As a plus, most of these jobs doesn’t require you to leave your home.
Here are my top jobs on the internet revisited, in no particular order.
1. Web Designer/Graphic Designer This is a path you can take either freelancing, starting your own consulting company, or working for a company. Typically, you will need experience in this field and in some cases do not need a degree. Companies are constantly looking for people to change and update their interface. Many companies are going online, and need a great looking presence. If you hold a degree, have a good portfolio, and experience, starting salary could be between $35,000 – $50,000. Typically, you will need a degree in Fine Arts, Computer Science, or years of experience.
2. Computer Programmer/Software Developer
You can either manage and develop software, or create programs to help the software run. You write, test, trouble shoot, and maintain source code. Typically, you will need a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related years of experience.
3. Web Analyst
Companies who are on the web, hire web/business analyst to find ways on how to drive traffic, revenue, to create a better presence to consumers or users of the site. Typically, you will need a degree in Business Marketing or related years of experience.
4. Journalist/Editor/Reporter/Blogger
News content is not only on paper these days, most newspapers and magazines are going online. Whether it is freelance or for hire, many companies are looking for journalists. Typically, you will need a degree in English, Journalism or related years of experience.
5. Social Media Manager
If you have experience in social media and strategies, then a career as a social media manager,director, or coordinator may be for you. You need to have knowledge of media platforms, such as Facebook, Vimeo, Twitter, Youtube, and content management etc. You would need a Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing, Digital Media or a related field.
6. Project Manager
You would be responsible for managing the execution of Internet-related projects from concept through development and delivery. Managing resources, project scheduling and management, budget tracking and status reporting – and any related factors that affect project success to ensure delivery of product within time, cost and quality parameters. Typically, you will need some previous management experience and a degree in Business and/or Management Information Systems, Computer Science. Also a certification in PMI (Project Management Institute) is a plus.
