April 21 will mark one year since Samuel Harrell was beaten to death at Fishkill Correctional Facility in Beacon, NY, by as many as 20 corrections officers.

12/18/84 – 4/21/15
Sam was serving an 8-year sentence on a drug charge. A black man with bipolar disorder, he packed his bags one night to leave even though he had years left in his sentence. As many as 20 COs handcuffed him, beat him, shouted racial slurs at him, and threw him down a flight of stairs.
A year later those COs are still on the job and nothing has been done to prevent anything like this from happening again.

To honor Sam and support critical changes in the prison, ten members of Sam’s family plus more than a dozen friends and supporters will be fasting for five days, starting on the year anniversary, April 21.
Join Us!!!
For an hour, a day, or the weekend: the vigil site will be beautiful and inspiring, featuring a dozen painted portraits of Sam, a replica of a solitary confinement cell, participatory art, services, music, and more throughout the weekend.
