Asbury Park’s Summer School Literacy Day, Meet the Author

Asbury Park students use summer school to increase literacy
Students from preschool through fourth grade created stories of interest. They made these stories come alive with the use of their drawings.
Under the supervision of Thea Jackson, summer school lead administrator and Asbury Park Middle School’s vice principal, the teachers at Thurgood Marshall helped their students produce these superb works by first assisting the students through the writing process.
The process
This process includes prewriting, composing, revising, and editing. Once this process was done, the students were allowed to expand their ideas through the use of their illustrations.
Finally, the final products of the students’ work were bonded together for all students, teachers, and visitors to read.
All three levels of the Thurgood Marshall School not only had numerous tables filled with the students’ storybooks but also the bulletin boards were colorfully decorated for this event.
In addition, the students willfully read their books to peers, teachers, administrators, and guests.
In closing, the pictures below provide a clear picture of this great summer school literacy event.
