An aspiring journalist who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University is asking for public support to close a remaining tuition gap after earning a half‑tuition scholarship to Emerson College’s master’s program in Digital Communication Leadership.

Turner Built a Strong Reporting Portfolio at Howard

Boris Turner, a Detroit‑area native raised in Novi, Michigan, graduated this spring from Howard’s Cathy Hughes School of Communications with a degree in Media, Journalism and Film.

He said he dedicated himself to storytelling rooted in honesty and depth.

Moreover, Turner independently published news stories on civic participation and missing Black children in the D.C. region.

Turner also completed internships with The Baltimore Beat, TNT Sports, and the Scholar Athlete Sports Network, gaining experience in reporting, production and athlete interviews.

Emerson Scholarship Covers Half, Leaving a Significant Gap

Turner has been accepted into Emerson College’s one‑year master’s program, which he says will help him build and manage his own media network focused on unfiltered journalism.

Emerson awarded him a half‑tuition scholarship based on academic achievement.

However, Turner said a substantial financial gap remains.

His parents supported three children through college, including two Howard graduates, and their resources are stretched thin.

Furthermore, Turner said he hopes to carry this next step on his own.

GoFundMe Seeks Help Covering Tuition and Essential Costs

Turner launched a GoFundMe to cover remaining tuition, books, media equipment and other program expenses.

He said every contribution moves him closer to a career centered on truth, service and change for Black communities.

The fundraiser notes that donations will directly support his academic and professional development.

Additionally, Turner thanked supporters for believing in his vision and helping anchor his next chapter.

The campaign continues as Turner prepares to begin graduate studies and pursue his goal of building a media network rooted in unfiltered, community‑centered journalism.
