Maryland among top 10 U.S. States where Americans are most at risk of gun violence
The study analyzed data from The Trace spanning 2014 to 2024, calculating shooting incidents per 100,000 residents.
A newly released national study ranks Maryland as the seventh highest state for gun violence, with shooting incidents occurring at a rate significantly above the national average.
Maryland and gun violence study
Conducted by Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers, a Las Vegas-based personal injury firm, the study analyzed data from The Trace spanning 2014 to 2024, calculating shooting incidents per 100,000 residents. Maryland recorded a rate of 202.5 shootings per 100,000 residents — approximately 73% higher than the U.S. average of 116.9.
Over the 10-year period, Maryland — home to roughly 6 million residents — saw a total of 12,220 reported shooting incidents.
Statement
In a statement accompanying the report, a spokesperson from Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers cited potential contributing factors including “socioeconomic conditions, population density, and local gun policies.”
“We hope these findings contribute to meaningful discussions about gun safety and public health initiatives aimed at reducing the incidence of shooting incidents across the country,” the spokesperson added.
The study forms part of a broader effort by the firm to spotlight public health and safety trends nationwide, and comes amid ongoing debates around gun legislation and community-level interventions.
