Man sues Kansas deputy for running him over with patrol car
A former police detective is suing a Kansas Deputy for excessive force stating his civil rights were violated.
Former police detective Lionel Womack is suing a Kansas Deputy for excessive force.
Womack, 35, is suing a Kansas deputy who ran him over with his patrol truck. He believes this dramatic dashcam video proves his civil rights were violated, reports the Associated Press.
In the federal suit filed December 17 in U.S. District Court of Kansas, Womack claims he was surrounded by four cop cars during the August 15 traffic stop.
Womack was returning home from a California business trip when a highway patrol officer in Western Kansas chased him over “an alleged traffic violation,” the outlet reported.
Lionel Womack says he was so frightened by the number of Kiowa County Sheriff’s deputies responding for a simple traffic stop he took off running into an open field.
The dashcam footage shows Deputy Jeremy Rodriguez giving chase in his patrol truck, and eventually driving right over Womack.
Womack said he sustained serious injuries from the incident, The Associated Press said.
Womack, who was a police detective in Kansas City, claims he initially complied when he was pulled over by one patrol vehicle. He presented a valid driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. However when three more Sheriff’s Dept. vehicles arrived he feared for his life. He describes the experience as a “fight-or-flight” moment, and took off running into the field.
Lionel Womack is suing Rodriguez for excessive force. He claims his civil rights were violated when he got hit by the truck. He says he suffered serious injuries to his back, pelvis, right knee, ankle and foot.
