A 16‑year‑old St. Lucia boy is fighting for his life in Martinique after a sudden heart condition left him in critical condition and in urgent need of a transplant in Paris, according to his family. They say the crisis began on May 22, when Ajanni Mishael Charles collapsed and was rushed to intensive care.

Ajanni is known for his kindness, humor and warm smile. Family members describe him as energetic, respectful and deeply loved. Until last week, he was living a typical teenage life surrounded by friends, relatives and plans for the future.

A Medical Emergency Far From Home

Doctors in Martinique say Ajanni needs a heart transplant in Paris, where specialized teams can perform the surgery. He will remain in the ICU until he is stable enough to travel and a donor heart becomes available. Because of the distance, his parents and relatives remain in St. Lucia while he receives care abroad. They say the separation adds emotional strain to an already devastating situation.

Ajanni Mishael Charles’ Difficult Journey Ahead

Heart‑transplant transfers from the Caribbean to Paris are rare but possible. French medical teams have expanded long‑distance transplant capability in recent years, allowing organs to be preserved longer and transported safely. Ajanni’s family says this gives them hope, even as they face mounting uncertainty.

Rising Costs and a Call for Support

As Ajanni prepares for possible transfer, his family faces significant expenses, including medical costs, emergency travel, accommodations and transportation. They say their only focus is staying close to him through treatment and recovery.

A fundraiser has been launched to support these costs. Relatives say every donation helps ensure Ajanni can access the care he urgently needs. They are also asking the public to share his story and keep him in their thoughts as he continues to fight for his life.
