Complete Care Shop launches campaign to break silence around male incontinence
Complete Care Shop has launched a national campaign to raise awareness about male urinary incontinence, a condition affecting more than 8.5M.
Complete Care Shop has launched a campaign to raise awareness about male urinary incontinence, a condition affecting more than 8.5 million men in the UK, according to the company’s press release. The effort aims to reduce stigma, expand access to support and encourage men to seek help earlier.
A Common Issue That Remains Widely Misunderstood
Male urinary incontinence is one of the most under‑discussed health issues in the UK. As many as one in four men experience symptoms at some point in their lives, the press release states.
Clinical research shows that 11–32% of men deal with urinary leakage, with rates rising due to age, prostate conditions and post‑surgery recovery. Many men delay seeking help because of embarrassment or misconceptions about treatment.
Venessa Hodgson of Complete Care Shop says silence remains a major barrier.
“The reality is that millions of men are affected, but very few feel comfortable talking about it,” she said.
Why Men Stay Silent
Symptoms can be mild or occasional, yet the impact can be significant. Men often report embarrassment, anxiety and loss of confidence. Social activities, exercise and work events can feel stressful due to fear of leakage. Avoiding activity may reduce mobility or slow recovery from underlying health issues.
The press release notes that few men seek treatment, and even fewer know male‑specific products exist.
How the Campaign Works
Complete Care Shop’s campaign focuses on three areas designed to reduce stigma and improve support.
1. Encouraging Open Conversation
The company plans to normalize discussions about bladder health through educational articles, press outreach and social media stories. These efforts highlight real experiences and expert insights.
2. Expanding Access to Practical Solutions
The retailer offers male‑specific pads, shields, protective boxers, bedding protection and absorbent products designed for comfort and discretion. The press release emphasizes that effective, discreet solutions are widely available.
3. Promoting Early Healthcare Support
Many men live with symptoms for years before seeking help. The campaign encourages early conversations with healthcare professionals to prevent worsening symptoms and ensure proper care.
Everyday Challenges Highlight the Need
Men often struggle in situations with limited toilet access. Busy commuter trains, workplaces with few facilities and long car journeys can create stressful environments. Even routine activities, such as attending sports events or sitting in traffic, can be difficult when toilet stops are unpredictable. These moments show how incontinence affects confidence and daily life.
“Men Deserve Support, Not Silence”
Hodgson says the emotional toll is often underestimated because incontinence is invisible. “We regularly hear from men who have gone months, or even decades, without asking for help because of embarrassment,” she said. “Our message is simple, you are not alone, and support is available.”
