Former NFL Linebacker Tae Crowder Launches GoFundMe After Losing Life Savings in Alleged Fraud Scheme
Former NFL linebacker Tae Crowder has launched a GoFundMe after losing his entire life savings in what he and other former players describe as a widespread investment fraud scheme.
NEW YORK — Former NFL linebacker Tae Crowder has launched a GoFundMe after losing his entire life savings in what he and other former players describe as a widespread investment fraud scheme. Crowder says he lost at least $500,000.
Crowder Says Scheme Wiped Out His Savings
Crowder told ESPN he invested with Motion Venture, an e‑commerce operation run by 23‑year‑old Mohamed Coulibaly. He said the involvement of other NFL players made the venture appear legitimate.
The company promised investors repayment of their principal after a set period. However, Crowder and several former NFL players say the money never came back. Some reported losses exceeding $1 million.
Coulibaly was found dead in New Jersey on July 31 after a welfare check, leaving investors with few answers and no returned funds.
Former Players Also Report Major Losses
Crowder was not alone. Former NFL running back Matt Breida and another unnamed player told ESPN they also lost substantial investments tied to Motion Venture. Contracts reviewed by ESPN showed investments of $250,000 and $675,000 from the other players. None received repayment.
Federal reportedly investigators met with Crowder before Coulibaly’s death. A complaint outlining the allegations was filed with the SEC, the FBI and state regulators in February.
Crowder Launches GoFundMe to Rebuild
Crowder launched a GoFundMe on Aug. 8, saying the loss left him without the financial stability he spent years building. The fundraiser has collected more than $9,000 as supporters respond to his story.
In a statement shared online, Crowder said he believed he was making responsible financial decisions. He wrote that the scam “cost me $500,000 of my savings,” adding that he hoped to rebuild after the loss.
Crowder played at the University of Georgia before entering the NFL as the final pick of the 2020 draft. He spent three seasons with the New York Giants and later played in the United Football League.
