Black and Missing
New York woman vanishes in Las Vegas; Family receives texts asking for cash and bitcoin
Alisa Goods, a 63‑year‑old New York grandmother, vanished in Las Vegas more than a week ago.
LAS VEGAS — Alisa Goods, a 63‑year‑old New York grandmother, vanished in Las Vegas more than a week ago. CBS News reports her family is now receiving text messages from her phone asking for cash and bitcoin. Her relatives say the messages began two days after they filed a missing person report and immediately raised concerns about her safety.
What Happened to Alisha Goods?
Goods traveled to Las Vegas to visit a friend, her family said. According to CBS News, the friend told investigators that Goods left his apartment on Aug. 8 to take a bus to a nearby CVS and never returned.
The first messages asked for help, gas money and bitcoin. However, her niece, Alana Calloway, said the requests made no sense because Goods does not drive.
“I said, ‘What do you need gas for? The car?’ My aunt does not drive. There is no car,” Calloway said.
Because of the texts, Calloway raised the possibility that someone else may have her aunt’s phone. And possibly Goods herself.
“If they have her phone, there’s a possibility that they have her,” she said. “I want to know that she’s OK and that she is alive.”
Alisha Goods’ Daughter Travels to Las Vegas
Goods’ daughter, Kristen, said she is terrified about her mother’s well‑being.
“I am hoping to God for the best, but my heart can’t take what it could be, which is the worst,” she told CBS News. She has since traveled to Las Vegas to search for her mother and speak directly with investigators.
The family said they contacted hospitals, jails and even the coroner’s office but found no trace of Goods. They also said they have struggled to get updates from detectives as the days pass without new information.
Police Say Alisa Goods Missing Case Remains Active
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to media that Goods’ missing person case remains active. Investigators urged anyone with information to contact the department. Police have not released details about the phone messages or whether they believe Goods may be in immediate danger.
Goods’ relatives describe her as loving, dependable and deeply connected to her family. They say they will continue searching until they find her. “She is still out there, and we’re looking for her,” Kristen said. “We want her home. We want her back.”
