Mother killed in wrong‑way crash after helping daughter move into FAMU
What should have been Danaijah Jackson’s exciting introduction to HBCU life became a devastating family tragedy when her mother, Terri Pollock, was killed in a wrong‑way crash shortly after leaving Florida A&M University.
What should have been Danaijah Jackson’s exciting introduction to HBCU life became a devastating family tragedy when her mother, Terri Pollock, was killed in a wrong‑way crash shortly after leaving Florida A&M University.
Crash Happens Hours After Move‑In
Pollock, 35, had just finished helping Danaijah move into her freshman dorm at FAMU when she began driving home. Around 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 19, a wrong‑way driver struck Pollock’s SUV head‑on on Interstate 10 in Madison County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Witnesses reported heavy rainfall at the time of the crash. Both vehicles came to rest on opposite shoulders of the interstate. Pollock died at the scene.
Pollock’s 13‑year‑old daughter, Tariji Cone, was also in the vehicle. She suffered multiple broken bones, a brain injury and required a ventilator and chest tube during early treatment, her grandmother said.
Family Had Just Celebrated Major Milestones
The tragedy struck only months after Pollock and Danaijah celebrated major academic achievements together. Pollock earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in May, while Danaijah graduated high school and completed her associate degree at the same time.
Pollock’s mother said the family had traveled to help Danaijah settle into her dorm, decorating her room before returning home. Pollock left the next day, texting relatives that she was on her way back. She never made it.
Community Rallies Around the Family
A verified GoFundMe created for the family has raised more than $39,000 at the time of this report. The support has helped Danaijah’s college expenses, Tariji’s medical care and Pollock’s funeral costs.
Pollock’s family described her as a devoted single mother who worked tirelessly to support her daughters’ education and future.
Danaijah is now beginning her FAMU journey while grieving her mother and helping her younger sister recover. The family says every donation helps them focus on healing and honoring Pollock’s life.
