Outrage grows over brutal attack on teen at California concert
A video reportedly shows several men punching and kicking Green as he lay on the ground. His family believes the attack was racially motivated.
The family of 17-year-old Elijah Green is demanding justice after a violent assault at a concert in Palmdale, California last month.
Family demands justice for Elijah Green
A video reportedly shows several men punching and kicking Green as he laid on the ground. His family believes the attack was racially motivated.
Green’s mother, Roneika Green, is devastated. “My son was beaten because he’s Black. This is clearly a hate crime, and I demand justice,” she said.
Civil rights activist Najee Ali, senior organizer for Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches, has also joined the family in calling for swift legal action against the perpetrators.
“To see Elijah helpless as he’s being stomped on and kicked in the head by this mob of grown men… reminded me of our ancestors who were beaten and lynched by mobs of racist men,” Ali stated. He is urging the community to rally against this hate crime.
Elijah Green recounted the harrowing experience
In an interview with ABC, Green said that some of his attackers were individuals he had encountered at a party the night before. He had accidentally bumped into a young woman and apologized, but she remained upset. The next night, he was suddenly targeted at the concert without warning.
“The moment I turn around, someone comes from behind and punched me in the back of my head, and I just started getting jumped. No one came to help me,” Green said.
Investigation
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. “We take hate crime allegations seriously,” the department stated. Detectives are reviewing the case.
No arrests have been made. Green’s family is urging authorities to hold the attackers accountable.
