The shooting happened on East Monument Street around 7:00 pm Wednesday. Safe streets workers say McGrier was standing on the block, talking to a group of men when a car approached and opened fire.

Authorities said officers found four men who were shot. Three of the men were killed including Mcgrier. A fourth man is suspected to survive.

Dashawn McGrier was also a victim of police brutality

McGrier was also the victim of a vicious assault in 2018 by then-Baltimore police officer Arthur Williams. The brutal beating was caught on cellphone video and went viral.

Statement from Baltimore mayor

Mayor Brandon Scott released a statement late Wednesday night, saying: “Baltimore, enough is enough. What happened tonight was a horrific tragedy. We cannot and will not allow violence to continue to plague our city. Our Safe Streets workers put their lives on the line day in and day out because they believe in a better future for our city — a future we all should believe in. I ask that we keep the loved ones of those we lost tonight in our thoughts and pray that the person in critical condition pulls through. If you know anything that may help us make an arrest in this case, say something.”

McGrier is the third Safe Streets worker to be killed in just over a year. Kenyell Wilson was killed in Cherry Hill section of Baltimore in July. Dante Barksdale was shot to death outside Douglass Homes last January
