On February 17, Baltimore held its first ever Black History Month parade.

About Black History Month parade in Baltimore

Dozens of organizations marched Monday under the theme “A walk in legacy”. The event celebrated culture and a way to honor those who have left a lasting legacy.

“Today …. we marched in honor of the DEI leaders—past and present—who have fought to make justice, equity, and inclusion a reality,” mayor Brandon Scott said on Facebook.

“Their legacy is the foundation we stand on. Let today be a reminder that our history isn’t just in the past—it’s being made right here, right now,” he continued.

The decision to hold the parade came from the mayor’s office shortly after the second straight cancellation of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade last month due to weather.
