Philando Castile’s girlfriend to receive $800K settlement for emotional distress
The girlfriend of Philando Castile, who was shot and killed by a Minnesota police, will receive an $800k from the city of St. Anthony, Minnesota.

Diamond Reynolds, the girlfriend of Philando Castile, has reached a financial settlement with the city of St. Anthony, Minnesota.
Details on Diamond Reynolds settlement
Reynolds, who was in the car with Castile when Minnesota police officer Jernomino Yanez shot and killed him, will receive $675,000 from the city along with an additional $125,000 from the city of Roseville and the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust as a part of the agreement, according to the St. Anthony City Council.
City leaders said they hope the settlement will bring healing and closure.
“If we don’t approve this and we go ahead with litigation, it would just reopen the whole case again and bring heartache to everyone involved,” said Mayor Jerry Faust.
“It is best to settle, and this will resolve all civil litigation stemming from the incident on July 6, 2016, and it opens the door to continued healing within our community.”
Filed for emotional distress
Diamond Reynolds reportedly filed a complaint in Ramsey County seeking monetary damages and other relief from the shooting.
If the agreement is approved by the court, it would settle Reynolds’ claims of emotional distress and false arrest.
Officer Jeronimo Yanez, who fatally shot Castile after he told him he was armed, was acquitted of manslaughter and other charges.
