A close friend of Malcolm‑Jamal Warner’s widow has launched a GoFundMe to support her and the couple’s 9‑year‑old daughter as she continues a legal dispute over the late actor’s estate.

Destiny Rael, who introduced Tenisha Warner to the actor nearly two decades ago, says Warner is carrying heavy emotional and financial burdens while raising their child alone.

Rael said she organized the fundraiser after watching Warner navigate her first year without her husband.

“I have witnessed, up close, the depth of Tenisha’s grief and the weight she has had to carry,” she wrote. “She would never ask for this kind of support herself, so I am asking on her behalf.”

The campaign says donations will help cover legal fees, home repairs and daily expenses. As of Wednesday, the fundraiser had reached $35,000.

Actor’s Death Left Family Reeling

Malcolm‑Jamal Warner died at 54 in an accidental drowning during a family vacation in Costa Rica on July 20, 2025. Rael says Tenisha has spent the past year homeschooling her daughter while grieving the loss of her husband and managing the demands of a complex estate dispute.

After returning from Costa Rica, Warner found unexpected flooding in the family’s home, according to the fundraiser. Rael says Warner has been repairing the damage while balancing legal pressures and caring for her daughter. She described the past year as “one crisis after another.”

Widow Challenges Estate Handling

Warner has filed legal actions in Georgia and California. She says Malcolm‑Jamal intended to update his estate plan in 2022 to provide for her and their daughter but died before signing it.

According to the fundraiser, Tenisha stepped back from her career as a Doctor of Psychology to be present for their daughter and to support Malcolm as a “father, an actor, and as her husband”.

She is seeking more than $1.2 million from the Warner Family Trust, including obligations tied to a prenuptial agreement and financial commitments she says were never fulfilled.

Rael says she launched the fundraiser to honor the actor’s wishes and support the family he left behind. She noted in the GoFundMe that the effort is not meant to pull the public into the family’s legal dispute. Instead, she said the campaign focuses on helping a grieving mother and her young daughter maintain the stability Malcolm‑Jamal intended for them as Warner continues her legal fight.
