Asbury Park is a 3‑part digital series filmed in Asbury Park, NJ. It follows Colin, who returns home from prison and tries to rebuild his life.

Asbury Park Web Series: Colin’s Return Home

Incarcerated for vehicular manslaughter, Colin comes back to a mother who still loves him, a brother who barely tolerates him, and the vehicle that symbolizes the tragic accident. Carrying the weight of causing someone’s death while drinking and driving, he struggles to repair his relationship with his brother.

Creative Team and Promotion

Directed and written by Robert Andersen, Asbury Park is promoted on Al Thompson’s YouTube channel.

Thompson is an actor, director, and producer known for roles such as Walter Sherman in The Royal Tenenbaums, Ted in My Love Don’t Cost a Thing, Eric in A Walk to Remember, and voice‑over work as Walt on The Cleveland Show.

Through ValDean Entertainment, his production and distribution company, he supports African American directors, writers, and producers.

Viewer Impressions on Asbury Park Series

Watching Asbury Park raised questions and left room for more development. Why was Colin’s brother so angry? What was the relationship to the person who died? Why was the vehicle kept for so long, despite its painful symbolism?

The series offers thoughtful transitions, but it seems to miss a few key elements, especially the suspense that builds toward a dramatic payoff.

By the end of episode 3, the dedication “for Colin Baubles” prompted further research. The series is loosely based on the real death of Colin Baubles of Manalapan, who died in a crash on I‑95. His father, Peter W. Baubles Jr., also died; his brother Peter survived. None were wearing seatbelts, and few details are publicly known.

Al Thompson also promotes Lenox Avenue. After seeing only the commercials while watching Asbury Park, it’s clear this one is made for TV.
