What if Project Ghana teamed up with the A Better America Project, the study of Native Americans, European Explorers, and the DC and Marvel Universe, you get the ultimate Ghana session.
Just recently, Mr. David Wronko’s Asbury Park High School students had a Ghana session with the students from the Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana. Joining the session was Lord Aggrey, one of the great teachers for the Solid Rock Foundation School.
This session began with the students in Ghana giving a presentation about the continent of Africa and the country of Ghana. They informed my students about Ghana’s history, culture, food, hobbies, and everyday living. From there, to get public speaking experience, Mr. Wronko’s students gave the students in Ghana a presentation on reports from A Better America, which included Michael Jordan, Martin Luther King Jr., LeBron James, and John Lewis. In addition, Asbury Park students gave a presentation on one of two narratives based on Native American and European Exploration studies.
Tribe Survival
DIRECTIONS: Pretend you are a member of a Native American tribe and consider the following scenario: Your tribe has migrated to a cold climate in the forest. You believe that your tribe is the only tribe around. This is a time where there are no stores, no markets, and no technology. How would you survive in this environment? Fulfill the following:
- What is the name of your tribe and how did that name come about and why?
- How would you survive in this sort of environment? What measures do you have to take for food, shelter, and warmth?
- How would you organize your tribe in order to get everyone to cooperate and do their job that you assign them to?
Requirements: Have a one-page essay addressing these questions. Then you will write a letter to New Jersey Commission on American Indian Affairs explaining to them what you are learning about in school and if possible if a guest speaker will be willing to talk to students about the importance of Native American culture and why we need to share this information.
TASK: NARRATIVE ESSAY
YOU WILL WRITE A ONE PAGE NARRATIVE PRETENDING YOU ARE A MEMBER OF AN EUROPEAN EXPLORER’S CREW. YOU WILL WRITE A ONE PAGE NARRATIVE ON HOW:
- YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE EXPLORER YOU ARE WORKING FOR.
- WHAT WAS THE MISSION OF YOUR TRIP AND WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE? HOW DID YOU HELP YOUR EXPLORER OVERCOME THOSE CHALLENGES? ALSO HOW DID RELIGION, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY PLAY A PART IN YOUR JOURNEY. MUST RESEARCH YOUR EXPLORER.
- YOU MAY USE FICTION BUT YOU NEED ALSO TO INCOPORATE REAL HISTORICAL FACT.
- Presentation from your station. You may wear a costume and act it out. Presentation may be done for Project Ghana.
After the presentations, students from both schools engaged in a conversation regarding their studies in education, hobbies, and electronics. The conversation then expanded over to the DC and Marvel Universe. Both sides discussed Marvel’s series WHAT IF. . .?, Spider-Man No Way Home and DC’s Flashpoint.
