According to an Instagram post from former Bad Boy Records’ Mark Curry, Black Rob’s life will be honored with a Homegoing Celebration April 30th.
“Join us as we gather to share our favorite stories and memories, to laugh and to cry in memory of our beloved Robert ‘Black Rob’ Ross,” the IG post’s caption reads. “We will always love you!! YouTube.com/RevoltTV.”
Black Rob passed away on April 17 at the age of 51 from cardiac arrest at Grady Memorial in Atlanta.
Over the last several years, Black Rob suffered from kidney failure and four strokes brought on from high blood pressure.
Fans became concerned about Rob’s well-being when DJ Self shared a video of him offering his condolences to DMX’s family from his hospital bed after the Ruff Ryders rapper passed.
In the days following his hospitalization due to kidney failure, Rob, born Robert Ross, revealed he was homeless and needed money to help with his medical expenses.
A GoFundMe was set up with a goal of $50,000 to get Rob back on his feet, but the the “Whoa” rapper died before it was halfway to its goal.
Robert Ross was born in Buffalo, New York, and grew up in East Harlem. Rob was widely known for his 2000 hit single “Whoa!” from his debut album Life Story released via Bad Boy and Arista. The song later peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100.
