Mary and Robert Sr. said they are relying on faith to navigate their grief. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise,” they said. They added that his “warm spirit, humor and kind heart will be missed.”

UTAH — Robert Cosby Jr., the son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member Mary Cosby, has died.
He was 23.
The cause of death is unclear. Salt Lake City police said they first responded to a possible overdose on Monday before the call became a death investigation, per TMZ.
Production Paused as Family Mourns
Bravo paused filming for Season 7 of RHOSLC after learning of Robert Jr.’s death. Mary shared a statement on Instagram saying Robert Jr “has been called home to the Lord” and that they take comfort in knowing he is “finally at peace.”
The network also issued condolences on Instagram, calling Mary “a cherished member of our family” and expressing heartbreak over the loss.
Remembering Robert Cosby Jr: A Storyline That Resonated With Viewers
Robert Jr. appeared throughout the series, often discussing his long struggle with addiction. During Season 5, he told his mother he began using drugs at 16, including Xanax, Molly, acid, cocaine and weed, according to Variety. He admitted the addiction spiraled, saying he “wanted to die at the time,” while Mary tearfully asked how losing him would have affected her.
That scene had a major impact on viewers. Mary later told Vulture she “bawled” watching it and said Rihanna reached out twice to offer support, per Variety.
Although Robert Jr. entered treatment after Season 5, he later acknowledged he continued using. During the Season 6 reunion, Mary revealed he was in jail for violating a restraining order involving his estranged wife. She said she was upset but relieved he was somewhere safe.
Robert Cosby Jr’s Complicated Journey in the Public Eye
Robert Jr.’s addiction and legal troubles were documented across recent seasons. He pleaded guilty in December to several charges, including assault and violating a protective order, according to NBC News.
Mary, an original cast member who returned full‑time in Season 5, has long been a breakout figure on the show. Despite past controversies surrounding her church, her humor, vulnerability and relationship with her son helped reshape public perception in recent years.
Mary and Robert Sr. said they are relying on faith to navigate their grief. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise,” they said. They added that his “warm spirit, humor and kind heart will be missed.”
