Witnesses said Moore acted without hesitation. Myrtle Beach police confirmed lifeguards were off duty at the time, leaving bystanders to respond. The incident highlighted the dangers of late‑day surf conditions and the speed at which rip currents can intensify.

Community Support Continues to Grow

Moore’s death prompted an outpouring of support from former students, colleagues and families across DeKalb County, where he taught for more than 20 years. He was known as “Coach Moore,” a mentor who brought energy into classrooms and encouraged students on and off the field.

His daughter told WRAL the family is heartbroken, noting Moore did not know the child he saved. Tributes across social media describe him as selfless, devoted and consistent in his care for others.
