CHICAGO — Plans to honor Rev. Jesse Jackson, the civil rights leader who died on Feb. 17 at age 84, continue to expand as cities prepare to host public tributes. His family and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition released updated funeral arrangements that span Chicago, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.
Officials said Jackson will lie in state, receive multiple public visitations, and be honored in several memorial services. His family emphasized that all attendees are welcome, regardless of political affiliation. They urged the public to remain respectful and focus on unity.
Jesse Jackson Funeral Arrangements: Public Visitations in Chicago
Jackson will lie in repose at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in Chicago. The organization will open its doors for two days of public visitation.
- Feb. 26–27: Rainbow PUSH Coalition, 930 E. 50th St., Chicago. Doors open at 10 a.m.
Family members said the visitations will allow supporters to pay respects in the place where Jackson built decades of civil rights work.

- March 1: Memorial service at Brookland Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C.
- March 2: Jackson will lie in state at the South Carolina Statehouse.
- March 1–4: Travel dates for additional services in Washington, D.C. (details pending).

Chicago’s People’s Celebration and Homegoing
Chicago will host the largest public gathering. The family said the event will celebrate Jackson’s life, activism, and global impact.
- March 6: The People’s Celebration at House of Hope, 752 E. 114th St. Doors open at 9 a.m.
- March 7: Private homegoing service at Rainbow PUSH. Limited capacity.
Relatives said the services will welcome people from all backgrounds. They asked attendees to avoid bringing political conflict into the space.
Livestream and Public Access
The family will livestream all major services at JesseJacksonLegacy.com courtesy of the Word Network, ensuring national access for those unable to travel. They also encouraged supporters to send flowers and condolence cards to Leak & Sons Funeral Home in Chicago.
On Friday, Feb. 20, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson denied the request for Jackson to lie in state at the United States Capitol.
