What are the good things happening in Asbury Park Middle School? According to History teacher David Wronko, a lot of great things are going on. But chances are, you will never know about them because the media tends to sweep under the rug the good things going on in Asbury Park.

Great things happening in Asbury Park Middle School

If you know the history behind Asbury Park, you know it’s rich with a happy and an unfortunate story. The city is considered one of the toughest to live in, in New Jersey.

You may think Asbury Park, NJ is a troubled town plagued by the influx of drugs, gangs, and violence. It is needless to say that Asbury has its work to do, but don’t let the media fool you. There are a lot of great things going on in Asbury Park, and one of them is Mr. David Wronko’s history class and the Asbury Park Middle School.

Mr. David Wronko sent a series of what’s been going in the middle school:

Politicians Visit Asbury Park Middle School

Politicians at Asbury Park Middle
To begin with what is happening at Asbury Park Middle School we have the visits of two politicians, one in the month of October for the 2010-2011 school year, and the other in October for the 2011-2012 school year. In October of 2011 Assemblyman David Rible visited the school and gave the students a presentation on how a bill is created and passed through New Jersey’s Legislature. The students participated in creating a bill and were very enthusiastic about an actual assemblyman visiting the middle school.

NJ State Senator, Jennifer Beck Visits

Jennifer Beck at Asbury Park Middle School
Similar to David Rible’s visit, in the month of October for the 2011-2012 school year, State Senator from New Jersey Jennifer Beck visited my (Mr. Wronko) classroom and also gave the students a presentation on how a bill is created and passed through New Jersey’s Legislature. Once again the students were fully engaged with Ms. Beck’s presentation and learned a lot on how a bill is created and passed.

Museum and Publications

Asbury Park MS Students
Over the past three years Mr. Dave Wronko did an extra curricular activity which involved the study of dinosaurs. Students participated in a project called-“The Cretaceous War Zone”. It allowed students to research creatures from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous period. The students placed the creature models in combat, nurturing or gathering situations. Students created models, drawn pictures, put together dioramas and wrote numerous reports about the Cretaceous War Zone. The students work was so excellent that it was presented at the Museum in Trenton on April of 2010 and May of 2011. The Museum has again invited back for this year-2012-Mr. Dave Wronko and the students. In addition, the drawings have been published in numerous issues of “ Prehistoric Times Magazine“.

Asbury Park Middle Veteran Assembly

For the school years of 2009-2010, 2010-2011, and 2011-2012 Asbury Park Middle School conducted a Veteran’s Assembly for the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. In addition, the Asbury Park Middle School Students have sent overseas cards wishing our soldiers many happy holidays and a safe return. Besides the cards Asbury Park Middle School students have participated in the “Patriot’s Pen” essay contest in which the students had to describe why “Patriotism Still Matters.”

Asbury Park Middle School Saturday Program

The Saturday Program allows students to learn new lessons in history as well as make up any work they are missing for their other classes. I got on many occasions over 30 students on a Saturday. This shows that the students in Asbury Park are hard workers regardless of what others might say.
