On September 6, 2016, Superintendent of the Asbury Park School District, Dr. Lamont Repollet informed the entire staff at the Superintendent’s 2016 Back-To-School Convocation that great progress was being made.
2016 Back-To-School Convocation
For instance, graduation rates had gone up. Lexile scores increased. Students reading and writing ability had improved. Moreover, new programs had been implemented.
Some of those programs that contributed to this progress were the School Honors Academy and the High School Early College Program with Brookdale Community College.
In addition, the Asbury Park School District now has been accepted in the NJDOE (New Jersey Department of Education) Innovative New Jersey Community. Dr. Repollet stated that now other school districts and educational academies wanted to know what the Asbury Park School District was using because it was working.
Keynote speaker
On an additional note, the keynote speaker for that day, Mr. Dwight Carter, spoke to the staff about how teachers could make a positive impact in the life of students. For instance, he spoke on how the right action by a teacher could help motivate students be their best and achieve their life goals.
2016 Back-To-School Convocation closing remarks
At the closing of the convocation, each school presented innovative technology projects which were being done for the entire district. Project Ghana was also on hand to show the live conference that the students from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School were having with the students in Ghana.
