Asbury Park High School Big Events
Asbury Park High School recently hosted a series of engaging events, kicking off with a Memorial Day Celebration and History Seminar. The program honored veterans and fallen service members, while educating students on the significance of the holiday.

Just recently there were many events at Asbury Park High School. It all began with a Memorial Day Celebration and History Seminar.
Memorial Day Celebration and History Seminar
Vietnam veteran George Reed visited Mr. David Wronko’s history class to discuss the importance of Memorial Day. He emphasized the significance of honoring those who served and the holiday’s historical roots.
Following Reed’s visit, students presented their final research papers, covering topics from Ancient Greece and China to World War II. Each student provided their own analysis of historical events and how they relate to today’s world.

The school also celebrated a major milestone with the grand opening of the ESports Lab, marking an exciting development for students.
Asbury Park High Events : ESports Lab Opens!
Students now have access to a state-of-the-art ESports Lab, where they can explore gaming, computer science, and Unreal Engine, a tool for creating animations for movies and video games. The project became reality through the efforts of Principal Dr. Medina.
In addition, Pat Schmiedel of Energizing Young Voters visited the school to introduce a translation program designed to support ELL students.
Energizing Young Voters
Pat Schmiedel, a presenter with Energizing Young Voters, shared a cutting age translation program to allow students to listen to a presentation on “The Timeline of Suffrage” in the language of their choice.
This application, called Sentio, is a product of Pocketalk. With Pocketalk, students, educators and parents can communicate seamlessly via a state of the art translation– no matter what language they speak(currently a choice of 92+ languages).
Accessing the application via their smartphones, students were able to learn about the history of voting rights from the founding of our country to the present day. With the listening capability, students are able to watch the slideshow and the presenter, however the simultaneous translation also appears on their device.
This experience is the first of its kind for Asbury Park High, and for Energizing Young Voters and hopefully will continue to share a spotlight for future classes. EYV thanks Mr. Dave Wronko and his freshman class for the opportunity to join as partners, in any language, to keep our democracy strong.
Finally, the last big event that took place was the Art Show.
Asbury Park High Events: Art Show
Asbury Park High School recently hosted an art show, highlighting student creativity and expression.
Art teacher Jill Rosker, one of the event’s organizers, shared insights on the significance of the exhibition and its impact on students:
On June 6, Asbury Park High School transformed its media center into a gallery showcasing student artwork from the 2024-2025 school year. The show features pieces from various courses, including Drawing and Painting, Sculpture, Multimedia, Graphic Design, and Comprehensive Art.
Curated by art teachers Jill Rosker and Ralph Quick, the exhibit celebrates student talent and creativity. Throughout the year, Rosker and Quick have provided a safe space for students to express themselves. The gallery reflects their artistic voices, with pieces addressing topics that matter to them.
Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival
It has been a successful year for APHS artists. More than 20 students participated in the Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival in March. One student was runner-up for the program cover contest, three had work selected for the Teen Arts Showcase at Freehold Mall, and another advanced to the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival. A student also earned honorable mention in the Peace Islands Institute Art and Essay Competition.
Under Principal Dr. Perry Medina’s leadership, the APHS Art Program is experiencing a resurgence. The show marks the beginning of new opportunities for students to explore and appreciate their creativity. It reflects the school’s commitment to fostering academic, emotional, and artistic growth.
