“Dom was a visionary whose bold, joyful approach to celebrating the Caribbean cuisine of his childhood brought a fresh and exciting voice to London’s restaurant scene,” read the statement. “His passion, talent and generosity touched so many people. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his food.”

“He will be deeply missed.”

The restaurant asked for privacy for Taylor’s family and said it would remain open to honor his legacy.

Judge Ravneet Gill said Taylor was “instantly captivating” and cooked “from the heart.”

“What he built with The Good Front Room wasn’t just a restaurant. It was his heritage on a plate,” Reid added. “He took Caribbean cuisine somewhere it had never been in this country, and he did it his way. He was warm, funny and completely unpretentious about his talent.”

Chef Dom Taylor Was A Pioneer of Modern Caribbean Cuisine

Taylor rose to prominence after winning Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef in 2023, earning a residency at The Langham in London. His pop‑up, The Good Front Room, became the first Caribbean restaurant inside a luxury London hotel and was extended due to overwhelming demand.

He later opened a permanent location in Dalston, inspired by his great‑aunt Myrtle’s “good front room,” a cherished space in many Caribbean homes reserved for honored guests. Taylor said he felt responsible to preserve Windrush‑generation stories, recipes and traditions.

Legacy Rooted in Heritage and Innovation

Born to a Jamaican mother and Saint Lucian father, Taylor trained in classical French cuisine before championing Caribbean food professionally. He became known for dishes that were both familiar and inventive, pushing Caribbean flavors into fine dining.

The Good Front Room said Taylor’s passion and generosity touched many people and that his legacy will continue to inspire those who experienced his food.
