11‑year‑old hit by car
The Taylor Police Department said officers received a call around 6:37 p.m. about a child hit by a vehicle near Pond Village Drive and Eureka Road. When officers arrived, they immediately began life‑saving measures. However, the boy died shortly after doctors transported him to a local hospital.
Authorities said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. They also said alcohol and narcotics are not suspected in the crash.
“The accident remains under investigation,” the department said, adding that they asked the community to keep the family and responding officers “in their thoughts and prayers.”
Family Identifies Victim as Jacob Robinson
Although police did not release the child’s name, family members identified Jacob, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
His mother, Tonoya Robinson, said Jacob left home on foot to buy snacks. She told the outlet, “I talked to him. I said, ‘Jacob, you’ve got to hurry home before it gets dark.’” She said she called him repeatedly but could not reach him.
Robinson said she sensed something was wrong as soon as she heard ambulance sirens. She also told the news outlet that Jacob was not in a crosswalk when the vehicle struck him.
School District Confirms Student’s Death
Jacob was a sixth‑grade student within the Ecorse Public Schools district.
In a statement, the district wrote, “It is with regret that I have to share with you that 6th grader, Jacob Robinson, was involved in a tragic car accident yesterday in Taylor and has passed.” The district said he had siblings in other schools and that grief counselors would support students and staff.
Fundraiser created help support Jacob Robinson’s family
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help Jacob’s family cover funeral expenses and related costs.
