8orMas : ARE THEY CHANGING THE GAME?

“Game Changer” is the newest single from Maryland Hip-Hop/Soul duo 8orMas (Eightsense and Anonamas). The single is inspired by The Mario Bros. video game.

8orMas is a duo with a bond that most artistic duo can only admire.

Their sound is described as a passionate, soulful music, mixed with a voice that could birth inspiration.

Upon first listen of the track, “Game Changer”, I immediately thought about other Hip-Hop artists who sampled nostalgic video game music: Lil’ Flip’s “Game Over” (Pac Man), Jay-Z ft DMX “Money, Cash, Hoes” (Golden Axe) Beanie Sigel’s “Mac Man” (Ms. Pac Man), Saigon “Get Busy” (Super Mario Bros.), and Gucci Mane ft. 2 Chains “Get It Back” (Tetris), just to name a few. Exactly what drew listeners to these songs? It was the beat!

I must admit that when I listened to “Game Changer”, I thought that it was great to hear indie artist tap into the “nerd zone” gamers comprise a market that more than likely are not thought of when creating a single.

Listen beyond the beat and you get the soulful voice of Anonamas which is balanced out by the steady flow of Eightsense. Great concept but at times the beat did somewhat slightly drown Eightsense.
