Community Leader Tony Lewis Jr. Curates “Collateral Damage”: A Photo Exhibition in Washington, DC
“Collateral Damage” is a photo exhibit that will showcase the faces of the loved ones of those incarcerated.

Washington, DC – Mass incarceration is the most talked about subject on your local news station and major cable networks, however it’s missing an element when discussed.
Collateral Damage
Mass incarceration is definitely at an all-time high, but it’s the families and friends who are left to deal with the true “reality” of the situation.
America is the number one jailer in the world with over 2 million people being incarcerated, which leaves millions of families with loved ones behind bars and many children without parents.
In the Nation’s Capital, individuals will get a chance to view the “other” face of incarceration. “Collateral Damage” is the creation of Tony Lewis, Jr who is a well-known community leader in the Metropolitan area.
“Collateral Damage” is a photo exhibit that will showcase the faces of the loved ones of those incarcerated.
Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins & Friends will all be highlighted during this one time showing.
Exhibit
This exhibit will tell their story of pain, isolation, and sense of abandonment.
It will force the viewer to stare into the eyes of the other faces of mass incarceration and realize it could be any one of them.
When asked about the reason behind curating such an event, Tony states “The motivation behind this exhibit was to illustrate the hardship of having an incarcerated family member and advocate for resources aimed to support those people; in particular the
children.
It is about exploring the mental and emotional anguish that these people experience during the incarceration of their family member who could be their parent, spouse, aunt, uncle, or sibling.
These people are in need of resources centered around mental health, education and mentoring services. Incarceration is a family experience; we all do the time just some of us remain in freedom.”
“Collateral Damage” will take place Sunday, July 6th 2014 from 4-8 PM at Blind Whino located at 700 Delaware Ave SW, Washington, DC.
