Community rallies to support beloved musician and teacher Vance Gilbert’s cancer battle and recovery
As a full-time independent artist with no access to traditional sick pay or paid leave, Gilbert now faces not only the physical toll of cancer treatment but also the financial hardship that comes from canceled shows and lost income.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter, performer, and teacher Vance Gilbert—known for his soulful songs, humor, and decades of heartfelt performances—has recently been diagnosed with cancer on one of his tonsils. While doctors are optimistic about a full recovery, treatment will involve intensive rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, requiring Gilbert to step away from performing for several months.
