Tim Conover, a beloved father of two known for his warmth and generosity, was fatally shot by a guest at his North Oakland, Calif. home during a Fourth of July gathering, police and loved ones confirmed.

The 40-year-old was hosting family and friends on the 800 block of 41st Street when tragedy struck.
According to relatives, Conover had offered a longtime friend a place to sleep after noticing the man appeared intoxicated. Shortly after, the guest allegedly retrieved Conover’s firearm and shot him multiple times outside the home as he bid farewell to other attendees.
Emergency responders pronounced Conover dead at the scene. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Dwane Stewart, was arrested Sunday and remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail without bail on suspicion of murder.
GoFundMe campaign created
A GoFundMe campaign launched to honor Conover has raised over $32,000.
Organized by a relative, the fundraiser highlights Conover’s devotion to his two young children. Moreover, his enduring presence at school events as the “Master Griller” who greeted every child like family.
“Tim lived selflessly,” the campaign reads. “He’d feed you, laugh with you, and send you home with a happy heart.”
Funds will assist with funeral costs and help Cribbs maintain stability for their children.
Authorities have not released a motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
