Missing Maryland teen Dacara Thompson update: was last seen August 22
Thompson, a Lanham resident, was last seen on August 22. Her family reported her missing the following day, and her vehicle was later found abandoned in Hyattsville on August 24. On August 31, state troopers responding to a disabled vehicle call near Route 50 found a woman’s body nearby. While the vehicle was not connected to Thompson, investigators noted that the body’s characteristics were “similar” to hers.
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the deceased woman. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine both identity and cause of death.
Community and Officials Respond
Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy expressed deep concern and solidarity with Thompson’s family:
“Even though technically she’s an adult, she’s someone’s child—someone’s baby. Our hearts go out to her entire family,” Braveboy said during a press briefing.
Interim Police Chief George Nader emphasized the urgency of the case:
“Our dedicated detectives are committed to locating those who are missing and getting those questions answered,” he said.
GoFundMe Launched to Support Dacara Thompson’s Family
As the investigation continues, Thompson’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support search efforts and potential funeral expenses. The fundraiser, titled Help Find Dacara Thompson, has drawn emotional messages and donations from community members hoping for answers and closure.
The campaign states:
“We are devastated and praying for Dacara’s safe return. Any support helps us continue searching and prepare for whatever comes next.”
