Update: Plainfield Police Director James Abney said Wednesday detectives have spoken to ICE and confirmed that Connor Oldfield, a 19-year-old autistic man who has been missing since Jan. 24, is not in federal custody.

Abney told NJ.com a detective spoke directly to ICE “maybe four days ago” but came up empty in their search for Oldfield.

“ICE went through their channels and confirmed he wasn’t in their custody,” Abney said. “They are 100 percent certain they do not have him.”

It remains unclear why this information wasn’t shared earlier, despite multiple media requests to both agencies.

Police said Oldfield can communicate verbally but may become anxious if approached. Officers urged residents to check doorbell and security camera footage for any sign of the missing Plainfield teen.

“He’s a homebody… He’s been home alone many times,” Senior said, noting that he had never wandered off before.

Upon returning home, she contacted Plainfield police around 3:30 p.m. to report her son missing. Shortly after, she began searching for him, enlisting the help of family and police.
